What is Short of Breath


Short of breath or dyspnea drives an individual to breathe more frequently than normal tempo. Sudden Dyspnea is seen as a symptom of a variety of medical conditions it needs emergency medical treatment. In contrast, If you feel dyspnea while exertion or physically active, resting and expose to the open air can bring your breathing pattern to normal. Short of breath seems one of the prevalent reasons for admitting to the hospital among matured adults. 

Mainly, a blockage of the air passage leads to short of breath. sometimes disorders of the cardiac or respiratory system can cause short of breath. Disorder of the respiratory system includes Asthma, Pneumonia, Pulmonary edema etc, can block your respiratory way with sticky mucus or fluid. When your doctor finds Asthma as the cause of your dyspnea, will provide you with salbutamol like drugs to use with your Asthma inhaler. In case of Pneumonia, an effective antibiotic treatment will be administered. Congestive heart failure and heart attack also can cause short of breath. Furthermore, diabetes, hypothyroidism, kidney failure, swine flu and obviously smoking and obesity also cause short of breath. Mental stress or anxiety also has the ability to make you feel short of breath.

Besides, these conditions there are some more cause of shortness of breath like, injuries on the respiratory path, lack of oxygen in inhaled air and disturbances in oxygen transportation in the body. Oxygen transportation around the body needs sufficient RBCs in the blood, but if you have Anemia, your body is unable to supply enough oxygen around the body because of insufficient RBCs count in the blood.  

The reason for short of breath may be different, but immediate admission to the hospital is very important.
